Congratulations to our caretaking team on this achievement!

Cleaning Industry Management Standard – Green Building (CIMS-GB) certification demonstrates that University of Toronto has undergone a comprehensive assessment by an independent, accredited CIMS-GB assessor and has successfully demonstrated a commitment to the delivery of environmentally preferable services that are designed to meet customer needs and expectations. By implementing the CIMS-GB principles into our organization’s operations, Caretaking has established its capability to provide green cleaning services and assist the University in achieving points under the LEED-Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance (LEED-EBOM) Green Building Rating System.

The certification process proved to be a valuable learning experience as insights to the department’s strengths and opportunities for improvement were highlighted.  Since then, the department has introduced new processes and equipment such as an ergonomic microfiber program, cordless vacuums, I-mops, and minimized the use of wax, stripper and chemicals whenever possible through the use of diamond floor pads to clean and polish most of our floors. We have invested in software that has enhanced our Quality Assurance program and implemented an asset management program that identifies deployment and maintenance of over 1300 pieces of cleaning equipment located throughout the campus. All adding points, which resulted in us, achieving recertification WITH HONORS.

Special thanks to the Point of Service Staff for their dedication and participation in our processes and procedures which have made this industry wide recognition possible. Congratulations!

Within the cleaning industry new technologies and customer service requirements are reshaping how Caretaking services are performed and delivered. The CIMS-GREEN BUILDING CERTIFICATION is a biennial process. As we move forward the University will continue to evolve and embrace the advancements available to ensure Caretaking Services provides stewardship, sustainability and superior customer service, while maintaining a safe, clean and healthy environment on the St. George campus.
